Hello again! We're moving into week 9 already, and it still seems like we just started. Since I last wrote, I have joined the Edmonton Youth Orchestra (they rehearse at the Fine Arts Building) substituted in a brass band, and taken a trip to Red Deer with the wind ensemble to perform in a concert. I have also started a running group at the noon hour. It should be called the 'refuse to sit for one more hour' group, as the only reason we run is because we generally sit all day. So far there is one other runner in the group, but rumor has it another one will join us tomorrow. There has also been many more concerts that I've played in and attended at Convocation Hall. The last concert I saw was our very own cello professor's, Tanya Prochazka. Quite a few people came out. She played music by Debussy and Chopin, all of which was performed beautifully. I have also become a periodical member of the university orchestra, which is conducted by Tanya.
This week I have 2 midterms and a concert. Next week, the 12th, is the concerto competition. This is a competition open to any student at the U of A who wishes to perform a mvt or two of a concerto they are working on. The winner gets to perform their entire concerto later on in the year with the university orchestra. It's great that this competition happens so early in the year because it gives students a foreseeable date in which to learn a piece by. Goals are good.
